The Nourishment in Lip Gloss

The lips are one of the most delicate areas on the face. Its thin skin lacks oil glands,  making it easily affected by environmental factors. To protect the lips, it is important to keep them hydrated. With that in mind, you may ask yourself, can a lip gloss nourish my lips? The nourishment in a lip gloss highly depends on the ingredients. In other words, some lip glosses can be nourishing to the lips, while other lip glosses might not be at all.

Some lip glosses are made with organic ingredients such as coconut and grapeseed oils, or they can contain vegan and cruelty free ingredients and natural oils. These are the kinds of ingredients you want to be looking for in lip glosses if your goal is to hydrate and moisturize your lips. Apart from healing your lips, they can also even prevent future dryness or chapping of the lips.

Lip glosses that might not nourish your lips usually contain alcohol, menthol and strong fragrances. These types of lip glosses can cause irritation and dryness on the lips. Lip glosses with natural oils can heal the lips if dryness occurs, but it is recommended to go with lip oils for better healing rather than lip glosses. Lip oils can contain hyaluronic acid and antioxidants, which have very strong healing properties. Some lip glosses may contain these specific types of ingredients, but they are more common in lip oils.

There are also lip glosses that contain vaseline. These types of lip glosses can heal lips by creating protective barriers and locking in moisture. Most lip glosses that contain vaseline are also made for skin sensitive consumers. It is important to understand whether the ingredients are natural or not, so it is important to read ingredient labels before buying.
